Every leader has been trained to treat low retention as a red flag. But in the latest episode of Culture Talks, my co-host and Dave McCauley and I ask a question that stops that assumption in its tracks: what if it doesn't matter anymore?
The conversation starts with a warning for every executive: the days of managing your Glassdoor score are over. shares a live demo I ran with 40 leaders in a room, asking an AI agent "what is it like to work for" their own VP - and the results were pages deep, unfiltered, and shockingly accurate. As Dave puts it, when a leader dismisses bad reviews as "just sour grapes," that reaction alone tells you everything you need to know.
Then we turn to retention itself. With average tenure at some of the world's biggest tech companies sitting under two years, I wonder whether low retention has quietly become a business model rather than a failure - and Dave pushes back with a sharper distinction: regretted versus unregretted turnover, and what it really means when a leader can't keep anyone around for longer than five months.
The episode closes with a story that'll stick with you.
