Shifting Gears to the UPSIDE

What It’s About: Our MINDSET is everything! I found this great YouTube video featuring John Krasinski, who you likely know from binge watching The Office on Netflix, and/or seeing Amazon Prime’s Jack Ryan. The actor is taking this opportunity to share positive information on his homespun network called SGN (Some Good News). Please watch this video, and if you’re in a hurry, fast forward to the 8:47 mark where Krasinski “wows” a young fan named Aubrey with the cast of the Broadway hit musical, Hamilton. While there are likely better stories of super hero, good deeds online, there was something just so uplifting about this one for me. And it just got me thinking that I’ve personally given COVID-19 way too much power. Fu#k you, COVID-19. I’m ready to shift gears on you.

Why It’s Important: As renowned modern philosopher Eckhart Tolle emphasizes, we are not our minds. Our mind is supposed to work for us, not vice versa. My friend and someone who I admire, futurist/super entrepreneur Peter Diamandis, states the following on our current situation in his latest newsletter: “A negative mindset will never lead to a positive life. The human brain is wired to look for danger. And when we see danger, it puts us on red alert, clouding our mindset. So consider taking a diet from the news (or viewing it in moderation), and focus on the positive things, both gratitude and your ability to reinvent your business and build new skills. We live in a time wherein we can solve any problem, and our collective action in tackling this pandemic is giving rise to tremendous resilience. In the weeks ahead, I hope you maintain your safety, health and an abundance mindset. I truly believe we are heading towards a hopeful, compelling and abundant future for humanity.”

I’ve just realized how much the darkness and negativity has consumed me over the last few weeks. Enough! What will be will be, AND I’m going to start focusing more on every great opportunity this situation presents. (Read Peter’s Future Loop newsletter if you want some further inspiration). I’m not putting my head in the sand and pretending this situation is not here. However, I have an obligation to keep safe AND I’m going to rebalance to the light side of how much good I can create from this. Thank you to muses Diamandis/Krasinski, the Hamilton cast and Aubrey, you were just the boost I needed to get fired up.

One Millennial View: It really is impressive to see how positive mindsets seem to be prevailing as our situation drags on. I too am extremely happy to shift gears. Any all-consuming topic becomes exhausting, and although we’re physically stuck inside, we have to allow our mindsets to wander and focus on positive destinations.
